Charles Dow

Charles Dow (1851-1902) was an American economist and publisher. With his partner Edward Jones (1856–1920), he founded Dow Jones & Company, a publisher of financial bulletins. In 1889 he founded The Wall Street Journal. Dow also developed several Market Indices, notably the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA). He also created the Dow theory, based on his assesment of the relationship between the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) and the Dow Jones Transportation Average (DJTA).
