On Balance Volume - OBV

On Balance Volume - OBV - is a technical indicator introduced by Joe Granville in his 1963 book Granville's New Key to Stock Market Profits. OBV is a continuous cumulative total of up and down volume, where volume is added on up days and subtracted on down days. The OBV line is viewed along with the price line to show whether the two lines confirm eachother or are diverging. If the price is rising and the OBV line is dropping, this negative divergence suggests a possible trend reversal.
