MultiCharts is a professional charting and automated trading platform, designed for futures, stock, and forex traders. A key feature of MultiCharts is the compatibility with industry-standard TradeStation® EasyLanguage®. EasyLanguage® studies can be customized, optimized, and back-tested prior to implementing them on the real market. MultiCharts handles multi-symbol and multi-timeframe charts, and works with most leading streaming data vendors. Time-based and Count-based, as well as Bid, Ask, or Trade-based data series can be mixed within the same chart.

1.Ramirez you should blame yourself, not software. I’m a true MC fan. I’ve been running MultiCharts for 3 years and i’ve tested at least 100 strategies in MultiCharts and TradeStation side by side. 99% of them will generate identical output. Sometimes they are not the same just because TS has mistakes, MC doesn’t want to simulate it. 2. Optimization paramater’s management is superior in MultiCharts. You have all parameters on a single page. In TS you must go back and forth between dialogs. 3. FYI TS8.5 copied MultiChart’s genetic optimization feature. 4. The only TS advantage of strategy signal visualization is connecting lines between trades – not a big deal for me, but you are right here. All I can say is that your opinion is biased. Test the software again and open your mind. It is a new standard. TS mimics them. I can say it responsibly since I’m a system devloper for 2 decades and loved TS before they stop to lead. Greetings from Austria.

Multicharts isn’t that great at all when compared to Tradestation: 1) Powerlanguage may be compatible with easylanguange syntax, but same strategies with same input values give completely different results. That’s not good at all. 2) Setting and managing optimization parameters is far inferior. It’s is really annoying to manage parameters when performing many optimizations. 3) Visualization of strategy signals is also inferior. So I decided, and recommend, to stick with Tradestation.

They just introduced true portfolio backtesting…I’m not sure they have walk-forward simulation yet.

I have heard lots of good things about MultiCharts. Do they offer Walk Forward Optimization too?

The program’s functionality is impressive… The only thing that I hate is lack of documentation, but they told me that it will be fixed in the next release.

If you want to build a successful mechanical strategy it is a number one tool for you. In the past you had to search for the best indicators or price patterns visually and manually. With GA search I can step thru billions of combinations for hours and find what works best and consistent. It is a really good piece of software for me.

MultiCharts offers more than 15 data feeds and they are adding them constantly! You can use free OpenTick or high-quality and pricy Bloomberg. In some cases even free data feed is good enough, but in mission-critical tasks Bloomberg price is more than affordable. This freedom allows me to find what is best for me. The important feature they offer is ability to use two data feeds at once. So you can easily run two charts from different data feeds and be sure that your trading box will not stop when it must work.

I am using MultiCharts for about two years now. At first I have used it side by side with Tradestation, but the program has expanded so rapidly, that I have dropped TS completely. The genetic algorithm that comes with MC truly is a “Beast”, have not seen anything that comes close in speed of optimization. The next thing to come is Portfolio trading/optimization and I can’t wait to use this. The staff at TS Support is great in listening to their customer’s demands and give their best to make useful request available as soon as possible. Think about that compared to Trad – they are talking and polling about combination of tick/volume charts etc. for years and nothing happens. Multicharts already comes with all this – it’s just they way I always wanted to have Trad. If you are using TS whether 8 or still TS2ki you owe it to yourself to at least take the trial and see for yourself. The time to switch will be a minimum, because the environment is so familiar and the best is, you can use all your ELA, ELS or ELD files. The value you get is just outstanding for the pricing.

The ability to run MultiCharts with Rithmic for faster data and execution is unparalleled. Also, the results for MultiCharts integrate real Bid/Ask when back testing is done. This will give you a much more realistic picture when examining your strategy.

Is TradeStation still script intensive or have the common indicators and signals been built into the interface to apply to strategies?

I am happy to drop TradeStation. The sales people are always there to take your money. Didn’t mind that- except having been with them for 10 months straight I enjoyed their charts/charting – they were great, BUT: their data feed kept breaking down, not just with me, but
with others in the trading room I attended(about 30-50 others). Constant data feed breakdowns.
So, I have just signed up with MultiCharts, but with concern about their pricing, not sure where I stand yet.
Interactive brokers – been with them for 5 years now- great data feed- consistent and reliable. Why change charting. I am open , maybe Multicharts have something to offer. We’ll see. I have the trial , and will give it a fair- ‘trial’ . Look forward to it.
And not expecting they will make me a better trader, but make it easier to ‘see’ my signals.
Thank you for your space here.
Cheers, Greg88
