S&P GSCI futures and options on futures were introduced in 1992. The Goldman Sachs Commodity Index (GSCI) is a world production-weighted commodity index made up of liquid, exchange-traded futures contracts.

The S&P GSCI provides investors benchmark for investment performance in the commodity markets. The index is designed to be tradable, readily accessible and cost efficient. The GSCI is widely recognized as a leading measure of general commodity price movements and inflation in the world economy.
